Asphalt paving in Coeur d'Alene

Lakeside lots, hillside driveways and the steepest grades in the county.

Coeur d’Alene has the widest spread of conditions in the county. A flat lot on the north side of town and a driveway cut into the hill above Fernan are close to different trades — one is a straightforward grade-and-pave, the other is a drainage problem you happen to be solving with asphalt.

The steeper work is where a lot of homeowners get a bid that ignores the slope entirely. If your driveway drops toward the garage, ask any contractor you are talking to where the water is going to go in a February thaw. It should be the first thing they bring up, not something you have to raise.

The ground here

Coeur d'Alene is the least uniform ground we work on. West and north of the city you are still on prairie gravel that drains well. East and south, toward Fernan and the lake, the ground rises fast and turns to hillside cut — steeper driveways, more fill, and runoff that has to be actively steered rather than just allowed to soak away. A lakeside or hillside lot needs the drainage designed before anyone talks about asphalt depth.
