Asphalt paving in Post Falls
Prairie gravel, fast growth, and a lot of new lots that never got finished properly.
Post Falls has grown quickly, and a lot of what we get called out to is correcting work that was done fast during a building boom. New construction has a particular failure pattern here: the driveway goes in while heavy equipment is still using the site, gets loaded before it has cured, and cracks along the wheel paths within a year or two.
If you are building, the answer is usually to gravel the approach, let the trades finish, and pave last. It costs a little more in sequencing and saves the whole surface.
The ground here
Most of Post Falls sits on the Rathdrum Prairie — glacial outwash, so gravel and sand well down, and about as free-draining as ground gets. That is good news: the natural material makes a sound base and water does not tend to sit. The catch is that free-draining ground can hide sloppy compaction, because it will not show you the problem in the first wet season. It shows you two winters later, once traffic has worked the fines out of a base that was never properly rolled.
